  • Assistant Project Manager

    Assistant Project Manager

    Richmond, VA

    Job Summary

    Purcell Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager under the direct supervision of Project Manager for projects in Richmond, VA.   Work will include contract administration, daily reports, correspondence, quality control inspections, coordination of subcontractors, some estimating, and job supervision.  This is an excellent starting management position with opportunity for an individual to further advance in the construction field.

    Responsibilities

    • • Work directly with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent to support in any administrative functions.
    • • Assist in soliciting subcontractors and suppliers for bids, review and negotiate proposals, and make recommendations for award to vendors and subcontractors.
    • • Assist in administering the Quality Control Plan on Construction Projects.
    • • Review and track submittals and other necessary documentation through the course of construction.
    • • Assist in coordination and scheduling subcontractor’s work as required.
    • • Interface with Project Manager, Project Owners, Designers, Superintendents, Subcontractors and Suppliers, and any others as part of the project team to meet the expectations of the Client and deliver a successful building project.

     

    Qualifications

    • • A degree in Construction Management or related field; or a combination of equivalent training and experience.
    • • Be experienced, organized and team-oriented.
    • • Be knowledgeable in the construction industry and have an understanding of reading technical plans and specifications.
    • • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees, management and outside parties such as Owners, Architects, Engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and co-workers.
    • • Be experienced with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat – and have the capacity to learn/adapt to other construction industry programs (BIM, scheduling, project management, and estimating software).

    Detailer and Design Coordinator

    Purcell Construction is a General Contracting, Construction Management and Design-Build firm. Our corporate office is located in Watertown, NY with a regional office in Richmond, VA. Over 30 years ago, Purcell pioneered the use of modular construction. We developed a particular expertise in using prefabricated light gauge structural systems.     Purcell is looking for a full-time Detailer & Design Coordinator for our Watertown office. This individual will be solution oriented and willing to collaboratively face challenges as they arise throughout the design and coordination phases on our projects.

    The role involves interfacing with our entire team to coordinate design, provide detailing, and execute our prefabricated light gauge structural systems. A significant amount of communication at all levels of our organization is expected, including communicating with design professionals, owners and developers. The Detailer & Design Coordinator must have the ability to navigate multiple design software programs to produce various building assemblies and fabrication details as well as assist with estimating, preconstruction, and project management tasks.

    Roles of the Detailer/Design Coordinator will include:

    • A general knowledge of building construction and its associated building assemblies.
    • An understanding of the project life cycle in construction.
    • An ability to accurately navigate and interpret project drawings.
    • Experience producing drawings in AutoCAD.
    • Experience with REVIT, Navisworks, SketchUp etc.
    • Generating shop drawings for in-house and subcontracted fabrications.
    • Experience in BIM Software and Analytical software for model evaluation and coordination.
    • Collaborating with all parties involving projects and design elements.
    • Assisting with coordination of design during preconstruction and construction phases of project.
    • Assisting with aspects of estimating construction projects including pricing change orders and building assemblies.
    • Assisting Project Managers with preconstruction, procurement, construction and close-out tasks during a project.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe.

     

    Experience/Certifications:

    • Minimum of 2-years’ experience or associate’s degree in Construction related field.
    • Minimum of 1-year experience working with AutoCAD or similar design software to produce drawings.
    • Valid Driver’s License Required.

  • Carpenter/Laborer

    Carpenter/Laborer

    Watertown, NY

    Purcell Construction is currently seeking Construction Laborers and Commercial Carpenters to work on our current and future projects. The successful applicants will have a basic knowledge of commercial construction trades, practices, procedures and will be familiar with the tools, equipment and materials necessary to assist the Foreman, Site Superintendents, Brick/Block Masons and/or Carpenters in carrying out their duties and other projects as assigned.0

    Laborer:

    • Job requires ability to climb ladders, crawl for distances, work in confined areas, lift and manipulate heavy objects. Candidate must possess physical strength and agility needed to perform strenuous manual labor such as:
    • Be able to stand for up to 8-10 hours in a given day.
    • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. unassisted to your waist.
    • Have the ability to step up a 19-inch rise without assistance.
    • Must have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and organize assigned tasks for completion alone or with help.
    • Working conditions include restricted movement, extreme temperatures, working on buildings and/or scaffolding at heights over 15 feet above the ground and climbing ladders for heights up to 30 feet.
    • Education and experience: High school education or equivalent.
    • Valid driver’s license is required, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus (please be sure to note CDL in your application).

    Carpenter:

    In addition to the items noted above, carpenter should possess the following knowledge/experience:

    • Erecting and dismantling concrete formwork and scaffolding.
    • General wall and roof framing and sheathing.
    • Exterior siding, trim and roofing products.
    • Installation of standing and running trim.
    • Installation of cabinetry, doors and hardware.
    • Operating woodworking machines and tools such as power saws, drills, and planers.
    • General knowledge of Building Codes.
    • At least three (3) years’ experience as a Carpenter.

    All applicants are required to complete a Job Safety Training orientation program, and are required to abide by the company’s Safety Policy.  Applicants must not be on any medication without notice to the employer that may affect their ability to conduct work as described above.  In certain jobs, applicants must have the physical ability to operate construction machinery and/or equipment safely.

    Pay:

    $20 – $28 per hour depending on experience/qualifications.

    Purcell Construction Corp. is seeking a preconstruction manager and construction estimator to join our New York Division.  Duties include plan and specification review; document control; quantity takeoffs; material pricing; soliciting subcontractors; scope review; attending and/or hosting pre-bid meetings/site visits; coordinating with Owners, Designers, and Project Management Staff; full bid/proposal preparation and submission.

     

    Roles of the Preconstruction Manager/Estimator will include:

    • In-depth understanding of building construction and its associated building assemblies.
    • An ability to accurately navigate and interpret project drawings and specifications.
    • Experience performing quantity takeoffs.
    • Ability to solicit potential bidders and garner interest in projects.
    • Build and maintain relationship with existing and new subcontractors and suppliers to grow our outreach.
    • Be conscientious about achieving deadlines and has an accurate work product.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in concise and timely manner.
    • Ability to assemble complete bid presentation that clearly communicates project requirements.
    • Ability to collaborate with all parties involving pricing and design elements; this includes in-depth communication with designers, owners, bidders/subcontractors, and project managers.
    • Skill in identifying, pricing, and tracking value engineering options for clients.
    • Coordination with Project Managers, Designers and Owners through preconstruction and procurement phase.

     

    Experience/Certifications:

    • A 2-year degree in Construction related field is preferred.
    • Minimum of 5-years’ experience in Construction Industry with time spent in the role of bid preparation and submission.
    • Detail oriented, analytical, and organized.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
    • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe, Project Management, Scheduling, and Estimating Software are desired. Use of Microsoft Excel is a must.
    • Experience with Procore is preferred.
    • Valid Driver’s License Required.
